Having fun with your zoom lens

Do you have a zoom lens with your camera?  They are handy for sports, portraits and wildlife.  I usually shoot sports with my Canon 300 mm f4 lens, sometimes with a 1.4x extender for a little extra reach.   This lens is great for capturing birds and distant sports action but lacks the versatility of a zoom lens.  Generally speaking a fixed focal length lens is usually faster at focussing then its zoom counterpart.   I was shooting for a few hours at my son’s cricket game, using this longer lens for most of the time.  It’s amazing how that player fills the...
